venusta is called Otome Giboshi, the “(beautiful) maiden hosta,” in Japan but this species is actually a Korean native. Found on Cheju Island, it has characteristic lengthwise ridges on the scape. It is one of the smallest species extant and many different leaf forms are known. Plants belonging to it have been widely used in hybridizing.
