| Formerly called albomarginata the type species was a variegated (white margined) form which is now called ‘Paxton’s Original’ (which see). This variegated form does not breed true so can not be a wild species. The wild species has been named sieboldii f. spathulata (Miquel) in The Genus Hosta, (Schmid 1991) and this form is representative of the wild populations. It is perhaps the most important species in modern hybrizing. |
