We were watching Cardea Brown's cooking show when she made her baked onion dip. It was fairly elaborate so we simplified it down to the below recipe. Way better than any supermarket dips.

                   Baked Onion Dip
                            Carol
3 cups onions diced small
2 Tbs butter
2 Tbs white wine vinegar
1 Tbs brown sugar
1 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
1 8oz block cream cheese
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup grated parmesan
8 oz sour cream
salt and pepper

Instructions

Let cream cheese reach room temperature.

Saute onions, diced very small, in butter until turning light tan. Add vinegar, Worcestershire, and brown sugar. Mix thoroughly and then take off heat.

Cut cream cheese into small pieces then add and blend in thoroughly while still warm, then add remaining ingredients. Fill 8" square baking dish and sprinkle more grated parmesan on top.

Bake at 400F for 15-20 minutes.
