Long ago Carol was a flight attendant for a major airline. One of the recipes her coworkers shared was this one - Tab Pot Roast. Nobody is too sure where the original recipe came from. It's a surprisingly good take on a pot roast that everyone who has tasted it really liked, even the chef that once lived next door. One of our favorite cold-weather comfort foods.

                   Tab Pot Roast
                            Nobody's Sure
3lb. chuck roast
 onions, carrots, potatoes
1 can Tab soda
1 jar Heinz Chili Sauce
1 pkt Lipton Onion Soup mix

Instructions

Into a turkey size oven roaster bag add the raw chuck roast. Sprinkle with onion soup mix, pour the chili sauce in. Rinse bottle with the soda and add all the cola to the bag. Cut onions into wedges leaving a part of the base on each one so they don't fall apart. Add carrots, potatoes, and onions.

Put bag in Dutch oven and cook at 250F for 3 hours. If roast not tender remove vegetables and cook further.

For gravy add all liquid from bag to saucepan. Add butter and flour to thicken. Cook until raw flour taste is gone.

Note - Tab is no longer made. It was a diet cola sweetened with saccharin, which is OK to cook with. Do not use any diet cola sweetened with aspartame if you are heating the dish. Using any non-diet cola would be safest.
