Lawrence D. Englerth registered this hosta in 1976. Although the parentage is unknown, Schmid said 'Little Blue' is similar to ventricosa, the species, but smaller and the leaves are more elongated. The 6-7.5" x 4", medium to dark green leaf is flat and has 6-8 pairs of veins. The plant is 18-22" in diameter and 12" tall. The deep blue-purple, bell-shaped flowers form on 30" high, straight, bare scapes during August in Michigan. The flowers are fertile.
