While the parentage of 'Lake Chautauqua' is not recorded, the original seedling is growing in Chesterland, Ohio. This plant was named, introduced and registered in 1998 by Pete Ruh. It came from seed obtained from Sugita. The 46" diameter x 26.5" high plant displays good texture, an upright habit and a moderate growth rate. The broadly ovate leaf is 11 x 8.5" and a medium blue-green. The base is cordate. The leaf exhibits a heavily rippled margin and is lightly twisted. It is dull on both sides, deeply wavy and lightly corrugated. There are 14 pairs of prominent veins. The lavender striped flowers appear on 32-35" scapes that contain inflorescence leaves. The green pods contain viable seed.
