| 'Chirifu Oba' is a streaked montana seedling found in Tochigi Prefecture in Japan. Frequently called simply 'Chirifu', the "Oba" part of the name is necessary because the word "chirifu" simply means "overall streaked". It creates a huge mound of streaked and speckled foliage with scapes up to 77". It has shown little or no tendency to stabilize into margin or center forms. Although many do not consider it's appearance attractive, seedlings from it often have better variegation, and it is highly fertile with prodigious seed set. |
